Did the Ends Justify the Means?

Posted: March 8, 2011 in Response Required

Could Stalin have achieved the same results without resorting to his dictatorial policies? Was Stalin was right to do what he did?

(The “ends” are the end goals while the “means” are the specific actions taken to achieve the goals.)

I agree to a CERTAIN extent . He helped mordernise Russia by using the latest technology of that time to make Russians lives easier but at the same time he killed a lot of people for opposing him…

We agree to a certain extent . Although Stalin has improved russia’s economy and military strength , but at the same time he had also caused great damages to the citizens of russia as he had been cruel towardss them by deprving them of food and worker’s welfare privilages .

  3. Group 2 (Jesslyn, Mengdi, Ansel and Jeremy) says:

I agree to a certain extent that Stalin could have acheived the same results without resorting to his dictatorial policies, or maybe have acheived BETTER results as he was very unreasonable and selfish to his workers who beared with him for the three five-years-plans. He was not right to do what he did because this is not the way to lead a country, without the support and love of his russians.

  4. The Awesomes says:

I agree to a certain extent.

Even though he improved their lives by giving them education and jobs, he also took away many peasants land in their farms which made them very angry as peasants needed land to grow crops to eat.

  5. Julius & group says:

I agree to a large extent. He was too paranoid and insecure, making him a dangerous person. He purged the entire Russia, killing millions of innocent people in the process even though they supported him. Without his obsessive fear, he could have made Russia a greater and more popular nation without having to be so notorious.
it’s gonna be legen – wait for it – DARY!

In my opinion, I feel that Stalin would not have achieved the same results without resorting to his dictatorial policies. In order to improve Russia, he has to resort to tough means such as killing horses to change the farmers’ way of farming. They had to adapt to the sudden change by Stalin’s new adjustments.

We agree to a certain extent. Stalin had improve lives of people in russia however to compare, there were more death than people who enjoyed his plans.

  8. Maple, Qin wen, Shen ee, Yin Xin, Wee Leong says:

I belived that it was wrong for what he have done. The 5 year plans was basically use to improve russia strenght and to also to be known as a global power worldwide.

The plan could have been carried out without using his dictatorial policies. He could use other means to improve the state without it. Using rewards to motivate his people.
